Starfish, Sand Dollars and Jellyfish

Today the tide approached some of the lowest levels of the year here on Qualicum Beach and the Strait of Georgia revealed some of her inhabitants.

I'm holding the skeleton or "test" of the sand dollar. The test lacks its velvet-like skin of spines and has often been bleached white by sunlight. In the water you can see a field of live sand dollars (those dark bits). I have never seen the sand dollars in such abundance.
