The Little Pile Driver that Could

For those of you that travel the Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay route on BC Ferries will notice that one of the berths has been under repair for quite some time now. No big deal! Doesn’t affect me! Wrong. Usually the May long-weekend marks two things. First the introduction of the summer schedule as BC Ferries adds a 10 minute interval to each sailing to offset additional time need for loading and off-loading the summer traffic; Second, the re-introduction of the “Coastal” line of vessels. In the case of the Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay route, it’s the return of the Coastal Renaissance.

Well this season things are running a little late for the folks over at Vancouver Pile Driving in the upgrading of berth #2. And it is only this berth that can accommodate the 160m length of the Coastal Renaissance.

So until the maintenance is completed we will just need to deal with the slightly more crowded Queen of Cowichan, Queen of Oak Bay, and Queen of Coquiltam.
